Just as Nigerians waited anxiously for the Nigerian Football Federation to sign a new coach, news surfaced that German personnel, Bruno Labaddia, had been appointed the new coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
He replaces former player Finidi George, whose brief tenure as coach ended after a disappointing home draw against South Africa and an away loss to Benin Republic.
Following George’s departure, the Nigeria Football Federation launched a search for a new head coach, with several prominent candidates linked to the role, including Swedish coach Janne Andersson, two-time AFCON winner Hervé Renard, and Englishman Steve McClaren.
Labbadia’s appointment as the new Super Eagles coach has sparked reactions, with many soccer enthusiasts in Nigeria expressing concerns about his managerial record.
An X user @sunday3810644 wrote, ‘Why this man, the man is an old timer football has changed from what it used to b them I doubt if this man can offer anything good to the Super Eagles. Anyway, I wish them the best but I still hv my doubts about dis man’.

@JosephOnuarah wrote, ‘Thoroughly disappointed with this recruitment. Why not sign an Amunike that has tasted glory in the age grade teams or Samson Siasia What is really NFFs interest in signing no-result and no-impact foreign coaches since last 2 decades.’

Another user, @K_6toolz said, ‘NFF go just enter Europe go carry PE teacher chai 😂😂😂’
@The_Khemist – “We’ve signed an 11th tier coach for the biggest footballing nation in Africa. It’s appalling. This man is no better than Amunike or Siasia.”
@habsalone – Admin, was the appointment done at midnight like our Election?
However, @AdebayoOnGod said, “May his reign lead us to success, let’s all back him up Nigerians . 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬.”
Also, @IamDONEAVE wrote, ‘Congratulations!!! I hope you won’t let him go after a tournament.’
